CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 28, 2021) — Employee benefits leader Unum (NYSE: UNM), made this year’s Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Women. Unum is #106 out of 300 companies for its working conditions, pay equity and professional development. Jumping 21 spots from last year, the company is also recognized for diversity among senior leadership and board members.
Unum created Employee Networks to advance belonging, create community and identify solutions to barriers some women may encounter in the workplace.
“The list was compiled surveying 50,000 Americans with representation at the executive and board levels taken into account as well as company initiatives around gender equity,” said Liz Ahmed, executive vice president of People, Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at Unum. “We are proud to be a people’s choice and will continue to foster a workplace where women are supported, encouraged and empowered for success.”
In 2020, Unum introduced six weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents. Earlier this year, Unum unveiled a new benefit: paid caregiver leave. U.S. employees who need time away from work to care for a spouse, child or parent due to a serious health condition can take 5 consecutive days of paid leave. Unum also launched Total Leave, a digital solution that simplifies corporate, federal and state leaves for human resources while making it easy for employees to plan leaves, receive benefits and return to work smoothly.
The company also provides up to $25,000 for fertility treatments or adoption assistance.
Unum was previously recognized by the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index for efforts to advance women in the workplace and the Top Companies for Executive Women by the National Association of Female Executives.
In the Forbes study, companies across 24 industries employing at least 1,000 people in their U.S. operations were evaluated, and the 300 employers receiving the highest scores were added to the 2021 list.
