Unum, DMEC offer education forums for HR professionals

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 5, 2019) – Unum (NYSE:UNM) and the Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) are teaming up again to offer a series of online educational forums for human resource professionals.

For nearly two decades, Unum and DMEC have partnered on the Virtual Education Forum Series, one of the first web-based learning forums in the industry, to share expertise on the ever-changing world of disability and absence management.

“The partnership allows DMEC to provide education to both members and non-members in a cost-effective way,” said Terri L. Rhodes, DMEC CEO. “Attendees continue to give the VEFs high marks on the quality of presenters and the relevant and timely topics they cover.”

This year’s online forums will cover topics like understanding mental health in the workplace to using data-driven solutions and technology for leave and absence management and more. The January session offered up-to-the-minute information about the Department of Labor (DOL) medical certification form and other DOL FMLA notices, and addressed the most common challenges for employers.

The remaining 2019 forum schedule is as follows:

• March 19: Advanced ADA issues “Evolving accommodation requests – you need what?”

• May 21: “Understanding mental health issues in the workplace – survey results.”

• July 16: “Leave management + technology = a winning solution.”

• Sept. 17: “Diving into Data: How to stay afloat in a sea of information.”

• Nov. 12: “Occ or Non-Occ – Does it really matter?”

The one-hour presentations, followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session, are held on Tuesdays at noon Eastern/ 9 a.m. Pacific. To register, visit DMEC and select the Virtual Education Forum you wish to attend.

“We want to provide access to not only important topics, but best practices and solutions in a virtual format that allows employers to attend from the convenience of their office,” said Michelle Jackson, assistant vice president of market development at Unum.
