Unum launches leave management resources for HR professionals

To support human resources professionals as they navigate the complexities of leave management, employee benefits leader Unum (NYSE: UNM) now offers a range of leave resources on its website. Content includes a white paper, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) employer handbook, FMLA compliance quiz and an original report spotlighting new research on adult caregiving in the workforce.

“Maintaining compliance with the ever-changing laws and company policies regarding FMLA, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), paid family leave, and Disability Benefits Law (DBL) can be complicated and time-consuming for a company’s human resources team,” said Angel Bennett, director of leave management at Unum. “These new resources on Unum’s dedicated leave site can help point HR professionals in the right direction.”

Some resources available for download at the leave site include:

Leave by Example white paper. This detailed report provides an overview of worldwide leave trends, overview of the parental leave landscape in the U.S., how leave expectations are changing, benefits of leave for both employees and employers, a review of challenges faced in administering a leave program, and a discussion of solutions.

FMLA Employer Handbook. An easy reference document to help navigate the complexity of the FMLA, this document provides clear definitions on employee eligibility, qualifying conditions and employee rights and obligations. It also contains detailed explanations of employer responsibilities including health benefits and return to work, as well as how to manage intermittent leave and avoid the pitfalls of non-compliance with state and federal laws.

FMLA Compliance Quiz. This 10-question, multiple-choice, interactive quiz presents a variety of FMLA scenarios that a HR team can potentially face, including state leave requirements, return to work policies and qualifying conditions.

2018 Caring Report. This new report published earlier this month details how caregiving responsibilities can take emotional, physical and financial tolls on the caregiver and result in lower productivity and engagement at work. Findings include input from caregivers of adult family members across the Baby Boomer, Gen X and Millennial generations.

To further round out its leave management offering, earlier this year, Unum introduced a leave management solution to new and existing customers to help better manage their leave programs. The LeaveLogic platform allows employees to create a leave plan which consolidates all leave benefits and lists the tasks needed to ensure proper leave planning and a successful return to work. It also educates the HR manager by delivering training on supporting the employee through their leave event.

More information LeaveLogic and Unum’s leave management services can be found on the company’s leave products page.
